The Growing Blogosphere

There’s no doubt about it – the Blogosphere is continuing to grow at an impressive rate.  According to Technorati, which makes it its business to keep track of all kinds of blogs, the number of blogs in existence is now well over the huge 100 MILLION mark.

That’s a number which hurts to even think about.  And when you consider that more and more blogs are being created every single day, the overall total is not likely to go down anytime soon either.

There are two main types of blog, both of which cover all kinds of subjects.  The first type is the personal blog, which is really what the idea of a web log was all about in the first place.  These are developed and maintained by people who simply want to share their thoughts on their lives, their passions and their interests, and invite other people to add their own comments at the same time.

Then there is the not insignificant group of people who how worked out how to make money blogging – sometimes rather significant amounts of money.  While the professional bloggers are still relatively few and far between, there are plenty who manage to pull in some revenue as a result of choosing a topic that is popular in order to start blogging for profit.

There is of course a selection of blogs which are inevitably started for no other reason than to make money, without any thought going into the content of them.  These ‘splogs’ as they are known don’t tend to hold much interest however as they are rarely if ever updated with any meaningful content once the initial sales patter has been wheeled out under the guise of blogging in the traditional blog format.

The ever growing Blogosphere as a whole can be attributed to two things above everything else.  Firstly it is easier than ever to create a new blog, given the amount of free accounts and hosting available online today.  It doesn’t need to cost you a thing.  Secondly there are enough guides around on the subject of making money blogging to give many people the desire to start blogging for money themselves.

There will always be a high percentage of blogs that are created and then abandoned after only a few posts.  But there are still plenty of high quality blogs being created in all kinds of areas, which appeal to a particular audience and involve them in a lot of different ways.  These kinds of blogs make money almost without trying, once advertisements are added to the pages.  Many forms of advertisements can be utilized, the most well known text ads are Google Adsense.  In Text ads have also become increasingly popular these days, Kontera ContentLink Ads as a leading industry name in this field.

In this sense there is really only one type of blogging which thrives in today’s online environment, and that’s the one which has quality stamped all over it.  In the end the subject matter makes little to no difference; if a blog is of good quality and monetized in a subtle but effective way, it will find its audience and start to make money as a result.
