With ‘Gift’ or ‘Present’ keywords in 6 of 10 top performing keywords for a leading online retailers in 2007, the 2008 top-performing holiday keywords include ‘Santa Letter’ and ‘Christmas Spirit’, reflecting the greater focus on the holiday spirit and values in these challenging times  


San Francisco, CA, December 28, 2008 – Kontera, a leading provider of In-Text Advertising and Information Solutions for web publishers and advertisers, today announced its most ‘clicked-on’ holiday keywords for 2008 highlighted a return to values and the traditional holiday spirit versus last year’s greater focus on gifts.

Top trends in this year’s holiday campaigns for Kontera’s advertisers include:

  1. A return to values and the holiday spirit – In 2008, only 3 of the top-10 most clicked on keywords included the terms ‘gift’ or ‘wish list’ and gift giving versus 7 out of 10 of the most clicked-on keywords focused on gift giving in 2007.
  2. An increase in Click-Through Rates – This year’s top-performing keywords had a click-through rates that are 30 – 65% greater than last year’s. Specifically, between 2007 and 2008, the click-through rate for ‘Secret Santa’ increased by 43%, the click-through rate for ‘Gift Idea’ increased by 63%, and the click-through rate for ‘Gift’ increased by 38%. We attribute the improvement in the CTR to greater creative options, better creative and the continuous improvements in the relevancy of Kontera’s technology.
  3. A greater focus on the complete holiday experience – This year’s top-performing keywords included ‘Christmas Party’, ‘Christmas Decoration’, and ‘Christmas Stocking’, all elements of the holiday experience. In last year’s list, only ‘Advent Calendar’ focused on the general holiday experience.
